Domestic Violence Shelter-Based Services Program

OC Community Resources is currently responsible for funding, monitoring, and administering contracts for four domestic violence shelters in the Orange County area. The Domestic Violence Fund is derived from marriage license fees and domestic violence batterer fines.

The shelters provide a temporary "safe haven" for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Each resident is provided with food, counseling, legal assistance, educational opportunities, resource referrals, childcare, consumer education classes, child rearing, and empowerment. Residents learn to plan and execute personal goals that will benefit their future needs and objectives. The maximum stay at each shelter is 45 days, but those assessed as needing long-term residence may be transferred to a "Second Step" Resident Phase. This phase provides a longer residential period in which a client/survivor may continue their education or work assignments in a safe and independent environment.
